MATTALIANO’S HARD WORK PAYS OFF WITH PROMOTION TO FREDERICK
Former Ram gets promotion after posting 1.24 ERA and 27 saves with Delmarva
FREDERICK, Md. – Hard work and dedication almost always pay off and former Virginia Commonwealth University baseball standout Mick Mattaliano is a testament to that statement. Mattaliano, who was signed as a free agent after the 2007 MLB Draft, continued to make waves in the Baltimore Orioles organization as the reliever earned a late-season promotion to the Frederick Keys, a member of the Class A Carolina League.
The Pottstown, Pa. native will be leaving the Delmarva Shorebirds, where he was outstanding out of the bullpen with 27 saves and a miniscule 1.24 ERA in 41 total appearances.
He will travel to Frederick today to join the Keys for the remaining three games of a four-game series against the Kinston Indians, a power in the Southern Division of the Carolina League.
The Keys are currently 22-32 in the second half with 16 games left for the end of the regular season and need a late season run to make the 2008 playoffs as they currently stand six and a half games out of first place.
During his stellar four-year campaign, he tallied 94 career appearances, the third highest in school history with a 10-6 mark out of the bullpen. He finished with a 3.42 ERA in 152.2 innings of work, while walking just 37 and striking out 112.
