As part of its drug-prevention programs and commitment to creating a drug-free environment, the NCAA conducts year-round drug testing of student-athletes during both the academic year and summer months.
Student-athletes should review the NCAA list of banned-drug classes [PDF] and note that they may be selected for drug testing on the basis of position, athletics financial aid status, competitive ranking, playing time or an NCAA-approved random selection. This list is subject to change by the NCAA Executive Committee; visit the NCAA Health and Safety Web site for the most up-to-date list.
You should also be aware that many nutritional and dietary supplements contain NCAA-banned substances and impure supplements may lead to a positive NCAA drug test. The use of supplements is at the student-athlete’s own risk.
