RICHMOND, Va. – The Virginia Commonwealth University field hockey team pulled in a 3-1 victory over Appalachian State Friday night at Cary Street Field.
The Rams advance to 8-6 for the season after a strong offensive game in which they outshot the Mountaineers, 31-13.
“They girls put in a great fight, generating attack almost the entire game,” said Head Coach Kelly McQuade.
Senior Lindsay Jones (Springfield, Va.) got the VCU on the board nine minutes into the first half when she tracked down a ball deep in the ASU zone and scored from close range.
The Rams dominated the rest of the half, but didn’t find the boards again until the 30th minute, when Hannah Lyerly (Williamsburg, Va.) picked up a rebound in the center of the circle.
The VCU attack stayed busy in the second half, and midfielder Chelsea Hill (Virginia Beach, Va.) added the Rams third and final goal in the 54th minute after a scramble in front of the net.
“This was a huge confidence win for us,” said McQuade, “it was great preparation for us to get ready for next week.”
The Rams return to action on Tuesday Oct. 20, when the Rams take on hometown rival Richmond at 7 p.m. at Cary Street Field. |
