Iowa City, IA – Virginia Commonwealth University dropped a tough, 3-0 decision to Stanford, Saturday night at the University of Iowa’s Grant Field.
“We have to use this as a stepping stone,” said VCU Head Coach Kelly McQuade, “We have to use this as a positive to prepare ourselves for the next game.”
The Rams started off strong, but Stanford was able to get the first goal, just six minutes into the game when Midori Uehara snuck around VCU goalkeeper Megan Botteri (Mount Bethal, Pa.).
Botteri had three saves in 45 minutes of play. Sophomore Erin Jablonski (Charlottesville, Va.) played the remaining time in the second half, and recorded two saves to hold Stanford at 3-0 for the rest of the game.
Stanford would strike two more times during the match, once at the 29:16 minute off a deflection in the circle and again in the second half, at the 37:40 minute to seal the win.
The Rams return home next weekend to take on Monmouth at Cary Street Field on Sunday Sept. 20 at 1 p.m. |
