WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – Marle van Dessel (Oisterwijk, The Netherlands) scored off a feed from her twin sister Flore in the 19th minute and Virginia Commonwealth University held on for a 1-0 victory over Monmouth Sunday at So Sweet a Cat Field. The victory improves VCU to 2-0 for the first time since 1998, when it opened with victories over Villanova and Georgetown under Dawn Hill. For Flore van Dessel, the assist was her second in as many games. Senior goalkeeper Laura Baker (Kent, England) turned away four shots to record her first shutout of the season. The Rams return to action on Saturday, Sept. 6 when they head to North Carolina to take on Davidson at 3 p.m.
