VAN DESSEL’S HELPING HAND LANDS HER RAM OF THE WEEK HONORS
Sophomore logs game-winning assists in both VCU victories

RICHMOND, Va. – Coming off a freshman campaign in which she captured CAA All-Rookie honors, sophomore Flore van Dessel (Oisterwijk, The Netherlands) entered her second season with the hopes of taking the Virginia Commonwealth University field hockey team to new heights.

van Dessel has done just that as she tallied the game-winning assist in both of VCU victories over the weekend as the Black and Gold jumped out to a perfect 2-0 record with road wins over Fairfield and Monmouth.

After leading the team with five assists in 2007, van Dessel found the stick of fellow classmate Rosan van Eijkelenburg (Middleburg, Holland) who blasted a shot into the back of the cage to give the Rams the 2-1 victory over Fairfield just under eight minutes into overtime.

van Dessel found a familiar face early on in VCU’s road win at Monmouth as she fed her twin sister Marle just under 20 minutes into the contest and the defense held on as the Black and Gold picked up the 1-0 victory to remain undefeated.

van Dessel will look to help the Rams stay unbeaten as they take part in the Davidson Tournament this weekend with a 3 p.m. contest against the host team on Saturday and a 2 p.m. game against Radford on Sunday afternoon
