JONES’ LATE SCORE LIFTS VCU PAST MIAMI (OH), 2-1

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Senior Lindsay Jones (Springfield, Va.) scored off a rebound with 2:20 remaining to give Virginia Commonwealth University a 2-1 victory over Miami (OH) Saturday at the University of Virginia’s University Hall Turf Field.

The contest was VCU’s season opener. Miami falls to 0-2 on the year.

The Rams, who outshot the Redhawks, 21-13, rallied from a 1-0 deficit when senior Rachel Krumm (Norfolk, Va.) scored off a stick stop on a penalty corner with just under four minutes remaining in the first half.

Freshman netminder Megan Botteri (Mount Bethel, Pa.) turned away five shots for VCU, which also owned a 14-6 advantage in penalty corners.

The Rams return to action on Friday, Sept. 4, when they travel to Philadelphia, Pa., to meet Saint Joseph’s at 3 p.m.
