Maggie Will
Volunteer Assistant Coach
First Season • Furman '87

Current LPGA Tour professional Maggie Will joined the VCU Golf program for the 2009-10 season and will serve as a volunteer assistant coach.

Will is a 21-year veteran of the LPGA Tour, and her professional resume includes victories at the 1990 Desert Inn International, the 1992 Sara Lee Classic and the 1994 Children’s Medical Center Classic. Those experiences, and many others, made her appointment a no-brainer for VCU Golf Coach Matt Ball.

“Maggie gives us a point of view we have not had before, being a tour player and winner,” Ball said. “She is extremely competitive, tough, creative and can relay a sense of tour success to a group of guys who have not seen that before.  She definitely knows the value of one shot and is really helping us with course management and mental toughness issues.  The guys will be much better off having had the opportunity to work with such a fiery competitor.”

Known for her accurate short game and steady putting, Will is the owner and founder of Get Fit for Putting, a lesson-based and putter fitting business.

A native of Whiteville, N.C., Will starred a Furman University, and was a member of the school’s 1987 NCAA Championship Runner-up squad. Will also captured the 1982 Carolinas Junior Golf Championship, in, as well as the 1986 North Carolina Women’s Amateur title.

After more than two decades on the professional tour, Will has her eyes set on a collegiate coaching career.  When given the opportunity to join VCU, the 2009 Colonial Athletic Association Champions, she jumped at the offer.

“When I got out of college, my golf game was monochrome,” Will said. “And I had a coach who made it Technicolor. His experience became my experience. That’s what I hope I can do here.”

A member of the LPGA Teaching Division, Will has also been actively involved in the golf community. She served on the LPGA Executive Committee from 2001-02, as well as the Urban Youth Impact Foundation Golf Committee in 2006. Will has also served as a volunteer for the Urban Youth Impact Foundation since 2005. In 2001, she participated in EBay’s Auction for America, where Will auctioned off a round of golf with her to benefit victims of 9-11.
