Dr. Robert K. Winters
Mental Conditioning Coach
Dr. Robert K Winters, affectionately known as Dr. Bob, joined the VCU coaching staff in an advisory role in 2008.
He specializes in sports and personal performance training. He holds a Ph.D. in Sport Psychology from The University of Virginia, a B.S. and Master of Arts degree from Ball State University. He has extensive training in sports psychology, motor and visual learning, sports vision, sports medicine, and educational psychology.
One of the premier sport psychologists in the world, Dr. Winters has been the director of golf instruction at the NIKE Golf Schools since 1994. In addition, he has been a contributor for the World Scientific Congress of Golf Trust. Before entering the realm of coaching and psychology, Dr. Winters played golf at the collegiate and professional levels.
“Dr. Winters gives us a mental edge that we haven’t had in recent years,” said VCU head coach Matt Ball. “We were looking to get tougher mentally last year. He has helped us play more in the moment and not worry about all of the other stuff around us.”
A man of varied talents, Dr. Winters has performed as a professional model, actor and musician. He currently resides in Orlando, Fla.
