7-10-09

RICHMOND, Va. – Virginia Commonwealth University rising seniors Lanto Griffin (Blacksburg, Va.) and Rafael Campos (Guaynabo, P.R.) received a nice summer gift Thursday, when both golfers were named to the Virginia State Golf Association All-State First Team.

It’s been a banner year for both players, who were also selected to the All-Colonial Athletic Association squad, and teamed to lead the Rams to a conference championship.

Giffin, the CAA’s Player of the Year, completed the season with a career-best 72.69 stroke average. He tied for third at the CAA Championships and had five top 10 finishes this season.

Campos, meanwhile, averaged 73.57 per round and took individual honors at the Landfall Tradition in Wilmington, N.C. He recorded four top 10 finishes overall.
