GALLOWAY, N.J. – Colonial Athletic Association Golfer of the Year Lanto Griffin (Blacksburg, Va.) placed 38th Saturday to lead Virginia Commonwealth University to a 12th place finish at the NCAA Northeast Regional at the Galloway National Golf Club.

The Rams’ have completed their season, one in which VCU captured its first CAA championship since 2002. The top five teams from the regional, Alabama, Tennessee, Illinois, Virginia and Wake Forest, advanced to the NCAA Championships May 26-30 in Toledo, Ohio.

VCU struggled to the finish line Saturday, firing a 36-over 320. The Rams were plus-89 for the 54-hole tournament.

Griffin carded a five-over 76 on Saturday to finish with a 16-over par total of 229. Griffin fired a 76 on Thursday and 77 on Friday.

Sophomore Mark Jargren (+23), junior Rafael Campos (+26) and sophomore Vincent Nadeau (+30) followed Griffin in 56th, 63rd and 67th, respectively.
