RICHMOND, Va. - Virginia Commonwealth University freshman Bradford Burgess (Midlothian, Va./Benedictine) (pictured) was named Colonial Athletic Association Rookie of the Week Monday.

Burgess provided heroics in VCU’s 77-76 victory over Richmond Saturday when he knocked down a go-ahead 3-pointer with 48.5 seconds remaining. Burgess, a 6-5 guard, scored a career-high 12 points in the win.

Through nine games this season, Burgess is averaging 7.6 points, 3.7 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game, while shooting .467 (21-of-45) from the field. Burgess has hit 10-of-19 attempts from beyond the 3-point arc.

Burgess’ honor marks the third straight week a Ram has earned a CAA award. Senior Eric Maynor (Raeford, N.C./Westover) and sophomore Joey Rodriguez (Oviedo, Fla./Lake Howell) were named league Player of the Week Dec. 1 and 8, respectively.

VCU returns to the floor on Wednesday, Dec. 17 when it hosts Akron at the Alltel Pavilion at the Stuart C. Siegel Center at 7:30 p.m.
