CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Freshman Nicolas Vinel earned a berth in the final 16 to highlight Virginia Commonwealth University’s effort at the ITA Mideast Regional over the weekend.

Vinel, a native of Metz, France survived a 2-6, 7-5, 6-4 battle with 77th-ranked and 10th-seeded Carlos Alvarez in the round of 64. He followed that performance with a 7-5, 6-1 pasting of Duke’s Dylan Arnould in the round of 32.

In the round of 16, Vinel forced Virginia Tech’s Yoann Re to three sets before bowing out with an injury. In all, Vinel won three of four singles matches over the weekend.

Senior Emil Lindgren also reached the round of 32. Lindgren earned a victory over Omer Abromoivch of Charleston in the round of 64 before falling to Guillermo Gomez of Georgia Tech, 6-1, 6-2.

All told, VCU players Vinel, Lindgren, Thibaut Charron and Jordan Dyke posted a 6-4 record.

The Rams’ fall season is complete.
