LINDGREN CAPTURES TITLE AT SERGIO TACCHINI COLLEGIATE

NORFOLK, Va. – Virginia Commonwealth University senior Emil Lindgren won his singles draw and the Rams went 8-2 overall at the Sergio Tacchini Collegiate Invitational over the weekend.

Lindgren, a native of Stocksund, Sweden, cruised to three straight sets victories to reach Sunday’s final of the ‘A-2’ singles draw. In the championship match, Chris Mayer of UMBC managed to push the VCU senior to three sets, but Lindgren emerged with a 7-5, 3-6, 6-4 victory. Lindgren is 5-1 in singles action this fall.

In addition, freshmen Nicolas Vinel and Jordan Dyke reached the semifinals in the ‘A-1’ and ‘B-1’ singles draws, respectively.

VCU concludes its fall season when it heads to the ITA Mideast Regional in Durham and Chapel Hill, N.C. Oct. 16-21.
