NORVELL’S PERSONAL BEST HIGHLIGHTS REGULAR-SEASON FINALE

RICHMOND, Va. – Freshman Antonio Norvell (Portsmouth, Va.) capped a stellar first season as a member the Virginia Commonwealth University men’s track and field team with a personal best time in the 200-meter dash at the talent-laden Georgia Tech Invitational on Saturday afternoon in Atlanta, Ga.
Norvell led the Rams to five top-20 finishes at the prestigious regular-season finale for most East Coast schools as the youngster was the 14th highest collegiate finisher in the 200-meter dash with a career-best 21.59. He also competed in the 100-meter dash finishing 17th overall with a time of 10.81.
Sophomore DeAngelo Wilson (Richmond, Va.) was the highest Black and Gold finisher at the meet with a 15th overall finish in the 100-meter dash, crossing the line in 10.79.
Veteran Jason Gallo (Rochester, N.Y.) placed in the top-20 in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.85 and was the 17th highest collegiate finisher in the 200-meter dash, breaking the tape in 21.66.
Stellar senior Cary Chaffee (Richmond, Va.) concluded his outstanding career at VCU with a 16th-place finish in the 1500-meter run as he crossed the line in 3:50.81.
The Black and Gold will compete in three different events next week at the NCAA East Regionals as the 4x100 relay of senior Jackie DeShazo (Mechanicsville, Va.), Wilson, Norvell and Gallo will look to gain a spot in the NCAA Championships, while Gallo will race individually in the 200-meter and Wilson will have a busy day with a spot in the 100-meter and 200-meter. |
