FOUR RAMS SET TO TAKE NATION'S BEST AT NCAA EAST REGIONALS
Four members of the Virginia Commonwealth University men’s track and field team will compete for a spot among the nation’s best as the Black and Gold take part in the NCAA East Regional Track and Field Championships. Both the veterans and the youngsters will be a part of the action for the Rams as seniors Jackie DeShazo and Jason Gallo will join sophomore standout DeAngelo Wilson and stellar freshman Antonio Norvell at the star-studded event.
The regional meet, hosted by Florida State University, will be contested on Friday and Saturday at Mike Long Track in Tallahassee.
Wilson will be among one of the busiest athletes at the meet as the sophomore will run in the 100-meter, the 200-meter and in the 4x100 meter relay. The Richmond, Va. native blistered past his competition at the CAA Championships on his way to victories in both the 100 and the 200 with times of 10.60 and 21.13, respectively.
Gallo earned an individual spot in the Regionals at the UNC Classic as he torched the track for a time of 21.31 in the 200-meter dash, good enough for his first ever individual trip to the event.
All four members of the squad will join forces in the preliminaries of the 4x100 relay on Friday afternoon as the Black and Gold earned a victory in the event at the CAA Championships with a time of 41.09.
The quartet will take the track in the 4x100 meter relay at 3:50, followed by Wilson’s spot in the 100-meter relay at 5:50 and capped off by Wilson and Gallo in the 200-meter at 8:50, all on Friday.
The finals for the events are all on Saturday with the 4x100 meter finals at 4:10 on Saturday, the 100-meter finals at 5:10 on Saturday and the 200-meter finals at 6:05 on Saturday evening.
The top five finishers in each individual event and the top three finishers in each relay will automatically qualify for the NCAA Championships in Des Moines, Iowa on June 11-14.
