BRYAN NEWCOMB
VOLUNTEER ASSISTANT COACH
In his first season, Bryan Newcomb is the newest addition to the VCU Volleyball staff. He will work closely with the Rams’ setters and will help evaluate opponents, handle scouting reports and break down video, as well as other administrative duties.

Prior to joining James Finley’s staff, Newcomb played volleyball professionally the last three years, with stops in Switzerland, Sweden, Spain and Latvia.

Newcomb also competed collegiately at Pepperdine University from 2001-02 and George Mason from 2005-06. His time with the Patriots was marked by his selection to the Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (EIVA) First Team, as well the league’s Newcomer of the Year award.

In addition, Newcomb was the USA Youth National Team captain in 2000 and 2001.

A Richmond, Va. native, Newcomb starred at Atlee High School, where he was named the 2000 Virginia High School League State Player of the Year as a senior.

Newcomb received his bachelor’s in biology and a master’s in education from the University of Virginia in 2006.
