RICHMOND, Va. – Freshman Michala Kvapilova (Liberec, Czech Republic) blasted 15 kills and Virginia Commonwealth University hit a season-best .362 when it rolled past UNC Wilmington Friday night, 3-0 (25-13, 25-11, 25-16), at the Verizon Wireless Arena at the Stuart C. Siegel Center.

The Rams own a nine-match winning streak over UNCW and lead the all-time series, 20-8. VCU improved to 14-7 overall and 3-1 in the Colonial Athletic Association. The Seahawks are 10-10 overall and 1-3 in the CAA.

There were just three lead changes all night, as VCU overpowered UNCW. Kvapilova nearly had as many kills (15) as the Seahawks combined (21). She also hit .500 on the evening, one of three Rams to top the .500 mark.

VCU senior Ivana Rich (Cumberland, Va.) recorded four blocks in the match, moving her past former teammate Elisa Keuhnel and into sole possession of second place on the school’s all-time list with 332. Rich also hit .562 and added 10 kills, while junior Mariel Frey (Lititz, Pa.) provided 10 kills and 10 digs. Frey has six double-doubles this season.

Rachael Caricato hit .294 with eight kills for the Seahawks. UNCW hit .068 as a team and allowed seven VCU aces.

The Black and Gold returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 10 when they host upstart CAA rival Georgia State at 7 p.m. at the Verizon Wireless Arena.
