KVAPILOVA GARNERS ALL-REGION HONORABLE MENTION

RICHMOND, Va. – Virginia Commonwealth University’s volleyball season may be over, but the awards are still rolling in for one Ram. Freshman Michala Kvapilova (Liberec, Czech Republic) recently received an AVCA All-East Region Honorable Mention citation.

Kvapilova is the second Ram in five years to earn an honorable mention nod from the AVCA. Ludmila Francescatto received honorable mention spots in 2005 and 2006.

The Colonial Athletic Association’s Rookie of the Year, Kvapilova led the 27-9 Rams in kills per set (2.80) and hit .214. A 6-1 outside hitter, she also averaged 2.14 digs and 0.49 blocks per set and registered a team-high 40 service aces. Kvapilova was also named All-CAA First Team and to the league’s All-Rookie squad.

Behind their freshman phenom, VCU captured its first CAA regular season crown and reached the conference’s championship match for the third time.
