Box Score
RICHMOND, Va. – Senior Ivana Rich (Cumberland, Va.) hit .417 with 10 kills and four blocks in what may have been her final collegiate match, leading Virginia Commonwealth University to a 3-0 (25-13, 25-22, 25-23) win over Liberty Saturday at the Verizon Wireless Arena.
The victory, which was the final match of the VCU/Third Degree Sportswear Thanksgiving Invitational, improved the Rams to 27-9 this season. VCU has completed its regular season and will hold out hope for an NCAA at-large bid.
Rich did not record a hitting error in 24 attempts and led a Black and Gold attack that recorded a .286 hitting percentage. The Rams also logged nine blocks and seven service aces.
If Rich’s career is over, she’s guaranteed to leave as VCU’s all-time leader in blocks. In addition, her .332 hitting percentage this season would also be a school record.
VCU trailed just once in the first two sets, then overcame a 22-18 deficit in the third frame to secure the victory.
Also for the Rams, junior Lenka Melicharkova (Zlin, Czech Republic) (pictured, right) recorded 29 assists, seven kills and two blocks, while freshman Michala Kvapilova (Liberec, Czech Republic) provided seven kills, 11 digs and three blocks. Junior Kelsie Clegg (Boise, Idaho), who set VCU’s single-season record for blocks Friday against Pittsburgh, added five more to her total on Saturday. Clegg has 157 rejections this year.
Rebecca Warren led all players with 14 kills for Liberty, which slipped to 20-14 on the year.
