RICHMOND, Va. – Home contests with Pittsburgh, Temple, and Liberty, as well as a road trip to the University of Virginia highlight the 2009 Virginia Commonwealth University Volleyball schedule, released Wednesday. The Rams, 19-13 a year ago, kick off the 2009 season on Sunday, Aug. 23 with the annual Black and Gold Scrimmage at the Stuart. C. Siegel Center at 3 p.m. The regular begins Aug. 28-29 when VCU hosts the Third Degree Sportswear Invitational at the Siegel Center. The Rams will take on East Carolina, Temple and Wright State during the tournament. The following weekend, VCU travels to Charlottesville, Va. to play in the University of Virginia’s Jefferson Cup. That event includes a battle with the Cavaliers on Friday, Sept. 4 at 7 p.m. VCU will also participate in tournaments at Michigan and Maryland as part of the Rams’ non-conference slate. Defending Colonial Athletic Association regular-season champion Northeastern comes calling on Saturday, Oct. 24 at the Siegel Center, while Big South champion and NCAA Tournament participant Liberty pays two visits to the Siegel Center (Oct. 27, Nov. 28). The second Liberty tilt, as well as a visit from Pittsburgh of the Big East Conference, highlight the docket for the Rams’ Third Degree Sportswear Thanksgiving Invitational Nov. 27-28. |
