VCU CONTINUES DOMINANCE OVER UNCW, 3-0

WILMINGTON, N.C. – Virginia Commonwealth University senior Elisa Kuehnel (Dresden, Germany) provided 10 kills and junior Ivana Rich (Cumberland, Va.) (above) added nine to spark a 3-0 (25-12, 25-17, 25-21) win over UNC Wilmington Friday.

VCU has won seven of its last nine matches to improve to 17-9 overall, as well as 8-3 in the Colonial Athletic Association. The victory assures the Rams of just their second winning CAA record, both of which have come since Head Coach James Finley’s arrival in 2005. The Black and Gold have claimed nine straight wins over UNCW in the series between the two schools.

UNC Wilmington falls to 6-20 overall and 0-11 in the CAA.

The Rams trailed just twice the entire evening and hit .313 as a team. Senior Laryssa Goncalves (Curitiba, Brazil) collected 17 digs and sophomore Kelsie Clegg (Boise, Idaho) was credited with six kills and five blocks.

Lindsey Strucko had six kills and Ashlyn Morris registered 19 digs to pace the Seahawks.

VCU returns to the floor on Sunday, Nov. 9 when it meets Georgia State in Atlanta, Ga. at 2 p.m.
