NEWARK, Del. – Virginia Commonwealth University senior Elisa Kuehnel (Dresden, Germany) tied a season-high with 15 kills and the Rams hit a .262 as a team in a 3-1 victory over defending conference champion Delaware Saturday at Viera Court.

VCU has won three straight and seven of nine to improve to 10-6 overall and 2-1 in Colonial Athletic Association contests. The Rams are one win shy of matching their victory total from a year ago. The Blue Hens are 6-12, including 2-2 in league play.

Also for the Black and Gold, sophomore Mariel Frey (Lititz, Pa.) blasted 10 kills, senior Laryssa Goncalves (Curitiba, Brazil) logged 16 digs and junior Ivana Rich (Cumberland, Va.) added eight kills and six blocks.

VCU burst out of the gate, hitting .406 in the first set and .500 in the second on the way to a commanding 2-0 lead. The Rams also limited the Blue Hens to a .109 hitting percentage on the night.

Stephanie Barry booked 25 digs and three players were credited with eight kills to pace Delaware.

The Black and Gold hits the court again on Friday, Oct. 10 when it returns to the Alltel Pavilion at the Stuart C. Siegel Center to host Northeastern at 7 p.m. The Huskies were picked second by league coaches in the CAA preseason poll.
