8-25-08

RICHMOND, Va. – The Virginia Commonwealth University Volleyball team kicked off the 2008 season with the annual Black and Gold Scrimmage Sunday at the Alltel Pavilion at the Stuart C. Seigel Center.

Facing an alumni team featuring former Ram stars Ludmila Francescatto, Renata Salvatori and Melissa Peterson, as well as others, VCU’s current squad was impressive, rolling to a pair of victories, 25-11 and 25-14.

Additionally, Rams’ Head Coach James Finley and the entire VCU Volleyball program would like to extend its thanks to all the alumni who attended the scrimmage, as well as the post-match social.

The Rams open the regular season Aug. 29-30, when they host the VCU/Third Degree Sportswear Invitational at the Siegel Center. The Black and Gold will play four matches over the weekend, opening with N.C. State Friday at 12 p.m. The Rams follow later in the evening with Kansas at 7 p.m.
