FREY NAMED CAA OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

RICHMOND, Va. – Virginia Commonwealth University junior Mariel Frey (Lititz, Pa.) has been named the Colonial Athletic Association’s Offensive Player of the Week, the league announced Monday.
Frey, a 5-11 outside hitter, helped spark the Rams to a 4-0 start at the school’s own Third Degree Sportswear Invitational over the weekend, averaging a team-best 3.76 kills per set. It is her first career CAA weekly award.
Frey opened the season on Friday, Aug. 28 by setting new career highs for kills, hammering 17 against Temple. She followed that performance with 18 later that evening in a win over St. John’s. Frey was credited with a pair of double-doubles over the weekend and hit .223. Additionally, Frey averaged 2.53 digs per and 0.59 blocks per set.
VCU returns to action on Friday, Sept. 4, when it takes on Campbell and Virginia at UVA’s Jefferson Cup in Charlottesville, Va.
