NORFOLK, Va. – Three Virginia Commonwealth University freshmen combined for a 7-3 singles record to highlight the Rams’ effort at the Sergio Tacchini Collegiate Invitational over the weekend.

All three Rams participating the tournament, Ana Bara, Alex Bara and Mihaela Bunea, reached at least the semifinals of their respective singles and doubles draws.

Ana Bara went 3-1 on the way to a berth in Sunday’s ‘A-2’ singles final, where she fell to Charleen Haarhoff of Old Dominion, 6-3, 6-3.

Bunea was also slated in the ‘A-2’ singles draw, and reached the semifinals before dropping a 6-0, 6-0 decision to Maria Prishlyak of Penn State. Bunea also teamed with Virginia Tech’s Courtney Rauscher and captured the ‘A-2’ doubles crown via an 8-4 win over Elena Barry and Jo Jo Gruber of Delaware.

Alex Bara defeated Ana Mungo of UMBC and Na-Hyun Baek of Hampton on the way to the ‘A-1’ singles semifinals.
