VCU TAKES DOWN WINTHROP IN WEATHER SHORTENED MATCH

RICHMOND, Va. – Sophomore Laura Burns earned her 14th victory of the season to pace Virginia Commonwealth University, which defeated Winthrop, 5-0, Sunday at Thalhimer Tennis Center.
The Rams improved to 10-5 on the year with the win.
Both teams agreed to a shortened format, due to impending snow flurries in the Richmond area.
Burns, who is 14-3 this season, cruised past Sandra Herrera, 6-2, 6-3 on the No. 3 singles court. Also gaining victories for VCU were freshman Ana Bara, sophomore Kateryna Yergina and junior Olena Leonchuk.
The Rams return to action on Friday, March 6 when they host Marshall at the Thalhimer Tennis Center at 2 p.m.
